Developing safe instrument flying skills, reducing costs, and enabling progress.
We have our own helicopter Flight Simulator that students use for developing instrument flying skills in a safe environment, whilst cutting the cost of the training considerably and permitting training progress when flying might not be possible.
Our ‘Simulator’ is a UK-approved FNPT II synthetic training device used extensively in our instrument rating (IR) course for developing flight navigation and procedures skills in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). The Simulator is used in both our IRI and TRE courses and also for revision.
Our Simulator is approved by the UK CAA for Precision Based Navigation (PBN) Training.
- 40 hours may be the Simulator time of the 50 hours required for an initial instrument rating (IR).
- 10 hours may be the Simulator time of the required 15 hours for an ICAO instrument rating conversion.
- 5 hours may be Simulator time of the required 10 hours for a night rating.
Our Simulator is based on a Bell 206 Jet Ranger with a full instrument panel, dual controls and trim. With the ability to simulate night, snow, rain and cloud, there are a wide range of applications. We can realistically create emergency situations in the Simulator and practice the correct response. Our Simulator has autorotational capability so that engine failures at night and in IMC can also be practised. Many airfields have been modelled in the software we run, allowing students to familiarise themselves with the airfield procedures and recognise the visual clues around the base.

If you already hold your CPL(H) licence but think you may benefit from refresher training before your Instrument Rating revalidation or simply want to improve your instrument flying skills, then call Helicopter Services and book some time with one of our Simulator instructors at our White Waltham base.
If you already hold your PPL(H) licence and you are on an advanced flying programme with us it is likely that you will also be working with our Simulator instructors at our White Waltham base.
